Described by the sculptor, Alexander Stoddart, on his first visit as "Odysseus's Palace" this modest set of limewashed buildings in the Welsh hills is the architect's home. Over the years the house and gardens have been developed by Craig Hamilton and his wife, the painter Diana Hulton, into a highly personal statement about architecture and its relationship to the landscape.
The historic farmhouse dates from the 16th century and to this have been added rooms and courtyards which evoke the Classical world with references to a very wide range of sources that have inspired the architect and his wife. The grounds around the house continue to be developed as a memorial garden or Elysian fields. Here homage is paid to the architects, sculptors, mentors and others who have gone before.
