Alexander Stoddart, The Sculptor in Ordinary to the Queen in Scotland, has a Studio within the grounds of the University of the West of Scotland in Paisley and this design is for a formal entrance to his Studio. The design, which was prepared in close collaboration with Alexander Stoddart, draws on references to
Michael Gottlieb Bindesbøll's Thorvaldsen's Museum in Copenhagen.
Paisley itself is a city of wonderful Greek Revival buildings and the intention is to make reference to those buildings as well. The façade is to be adorned with two circular bas-reliefs by Alexander Stoddart as well as a central sculpture of the Golden Calf. As with the Thorvaldsen Museum the entrance is to have stone dressings with lime rendered external walls.
