A HISTORIC COUNTRY HOUSE IN GLOUCESTERSHIRE

The restoration and extension of a historic country house, previously altered in the 1790s by Sir John Soane. The house had been unsympathetically reduced in size in the 20th-century, disrupting Soane’s composition. The project included a new extension to restore order to the façades and provide additional accommodation, as well as a full restoration of the historic building. Externally the new extension draws on Michelangelo’s work in Florence, as well as making reference to the work of Soane and C. R. Cockerell. Internally, it provides a dramatic top-lit staircase in a new entrance hall and a modern family kitchen.
